Hi, I am Germaine Young; the mother of three
children, who are the light of my life! Matthew is 6 years old, Shaun 3
and a half years old Aimee, 2 years old. I enjoy spending time with my
children and try to stimulate their development as much as possible. My
eldest and youngest children have both attended the Moms and Tots
Workshop and thoroughly enjoyed it!
I am a qualified teacher, and taught full
time at a high school level before beginning a family. I also majored in
psychology and Human Movement studies at varsity, and these two subjects
still interest me. This encouraged me to go into teaching and to do
various fitness courses, including all levels of aerobics and kiddy
fitness.
I have a particular interest in early
childhood development, especially the effect that sensory-motor
development has on the toddler. Thus, I place a lot of emphasis on motor
development and sensory experiences, especially tactile stimulation in
my workshops.
I have taught the Moms and Tots program as a
locum and loved the experience of interacting with moms and their little
ones and seeing how quickly they learn and develop. For this reason, I
jumped at the chance of owning my own franchise and teaching the workshops.
Most of my learning and knowledge has come
from the mothering of my own children. Particularly, my second son
Shaun, who is mentally handicapped. I have had to research a lot about
genetics, low muscle tone, sensory defensiveness and developmental
milestones in general. Being a mother and dealing with a special needs
child has taught me a lot, especially about the meaning of love and
patience (I don’t always get it right!)
I have a passion for the moms and tots
programme, and love to see how moms and tots are able to spend quality
special time together. I am touched when I see mommy holding her child,
dancing to Barneys’ “I love you” song and to see the love in each others
eyes.
